Welcome to Heimdall Net's

Auction page

Mention online auctions to any ten people and you will get ten very different thoughts or opinions.  Chances are they will range from, "bargains everywhere, I am always on eBay!" to, "I've used it now and then" right through to those horror stories, "I sent the money but got nothing!"

Each of these stories reflect different "online" experiences.  I suggest disregarding anything that starts with, "I know someone who..." or, "a friend of mine...".  Stories that start like those are generally just that,.. Stories!  Who has not heard of the Big Bad Wolf or the Wicked Step Mother?  Urban myths, like fairy tales, generally have something terrible at their centre to keep the interest of the audience.

So where does the truth exist - for the amateur philosophers, just sit on your hands for this one, OK?.  In my experience, online auctions with the larger and reputable sites can be fun, safe and even quite profitable.  Whilst I have not dealt with every auction site on the web, those I have dealt with have proven themselves very simple, honest and easy to deal with.

These sites are the ones that I personally recommend and use.  This list of sites does not include every online auction site in the world.  If I missed your favourite boutique site, I am sorry.

To be included in this list, sites have to have:

*  feedback and user rating systems
*  effective member security and complaints handling
*  buyer recourse policies
*  a strong privacy policy (so you don't get spammed)
*  are large enough to have what you might be looking for.

Clicking the logo on the left side of the descriptions will take you to a page explaining the sign up processes and then take you to join up with the selected site.

eBay is a worldwide phenomenon which is pretty much the ground breaker of online auctions.  eBay has a secure and direct server, fast access times and good policies for any dispute which may arise.  If you have not yet set up an eBay account, click this link and go for it.  Just remember not to bid on anything until you have read and absorbed the advice and suggestions in Auctions - Buying.

Who or What is Heimdall:

Reproduced here from the Encyclopedia Mythica™ is a summary by Micha F. Lindemans

I chose Heimdall as the identity of this site as it is my desire to see the advice herein protecting all from harm on the net as much as is possible.

The idea of a naming my site after a protector encompasses this desire.

Heimdall © Encyclopedia Mythica (Norse)

Heimdall is the god of light, the son of nine mothers (variously given as the daughters of Geirrendour the Giant or of Aegir). He was born at the end of the world and raised by the force of the earth, seawater and the blood of a boar. Because of his shining, golden teeth he is also called Gullintani ("gold tooth"). His hall is Himinbjorg, The Cliffs of Heaven, and his horse is Gulltop. Heimdall carries the horn Gjallar.

He is the watchman of the gods and guards Bifrost, the only entrance to Asgard, the realm of the gods. It is Heimdall's duty to prevent the giants from forcing their way into Asgard. He requires less sleep than a bird and can see a hundred miles around him, by night as well as by day. His hearing is so accurate that no sound escapes him: he can even hear the grass grow or the wool on a sheep's back. At the final conflict of Ragnarok he will kill his age-old enemy, the evil god Loki, but will die himself from his wounds.

As the god Rig ("ruler"), Heimdall created the three races of mankind: the serfs, the peasants, and the warriors. It is interesting to note why Heimdall fathered them, and not Odin as might be expected. Furthermore, Heimdall is in many attributes identical with Tyr.
