Welcome to Heimdall Net's

Auction page for Sellers

Selling your goods online is easy and secure, provided you understand the basics and have read ahead to the section on moving money, especially receiving money.

Online auctions are great because to place a bid, the bidder has to have agreed to a binding code of conduct and a set of rules regarding how quickly they pay etc.  Some of the rules you can stipulate in your auction too.

The most basic advice here is, "what makes you want to bid on something?"  Some tips for better results:

A photo is worth a lot of words!  Use a photo editing package to merge a number of images into one single image if your auction site only allows one free image.  Make sure the photo shows what you want it to - focus, framing and background are important.  A recent email offering showed an auction photo of a wonderful condition item in the foreground and a semi-naked woman taking the shot after forgetting about the bedroom mirror!  Review the photo carefully before submitting it.

A clear description of the item including condition, physical size and weight (if posting or relevant), colour, manufacture date etc is vital to getting a bid.  What information would you require to decide to bid on an item?

A clear postage policy is great.  If you are going to do a bit of online selling, talk to some local courier companies; they often do great deals for repeat clientele.  We can send a massage table of 20Kg up to 200Km from here for $10.  If nominating postal charges, do yourself a favour and make sure that they are stipulated as mainland postage costs OR based on the worst case scenario for your costs.  An early sale saw a book sold for 99 cents with a postage cost stated as $7.00.  Unfortunately, the amount of postage was a guess and it ended up costing $12.00.  Nice negative profit there!

Dictate a clear returns policy, including time limits.  If you are selling something second hand, maybe you feel that as long as it is not DoA (Dead on Arrival), you have filled your part of the exchange.  Set a time limit on returns too!  Whilst I have not yet had an item returned, my auctions all carry a five day return for DoA items and then all sales are final.

Who or What is Heimdall:

Reproduced here from the Encyclopedia Mythica™ is a summary by Micha F. Lindemans

I chose Heimdall as the identity of this site as it is my desire to see the advice herein protecting all from harm on the net as much as is possible.

The idea of a naming my site after a protector encompasses this desire.

Heimdall © Encyclopedia Mythica (Norse)

Heimdall is the god of light, the son of nine mothers (variously given as the daughters of Geirrendour the Giant or of Aegir). He was born at the end of the world and raised by the force of the earth, seawater and the blood of a boar. Because of his shining, golden teeth he is also called Gullintani ("gold tooth"). His hall is Himinbjorg, The Cliffs of Heaven, and his horse is Gulltop. Heimdall carries the horn Gjallar.

He is the watchman of the gods and guards Bifrost, the only entrance to Asgard, the realm of the gods. It is Heimdall's duty to prevent the giants from forcing their way into Asgard. He requires less sleep than a bird and can see a hundred miles around him, by night as well as by day. His hearing is so accurate that no sound escapes him: he can even hear the grass grow or the wool on a sheep's back. At the final conflict of Ragnarok he will kill his age-old enemy, the evil god Loki, but will die himself from his wounds.

As the god Rig ("ruler"), Heimdall created the three races of mankind: the serfs, the peasants, and the warriors. It is interesting to note why Heimdall fathered them, and not Odin as might be expected. Furthermore, Heimdall is in many attributes identical with Tyr.
