Online Shopping Tips & Tricks
(how to make sure you are getting the most from every cent!)

So here we are,.. you have a credit card, something you want to get and now you want to make sure that you will find it for the best price and make sure it is actually the best thing you can buy for your hard earned money.  Some very simple tips and tricks will make sure that this happens for you.

If you did not read or re-read the information at the bottom of the Internet shopping page, please do so now.

  • Make sure you really want it!  Seems simple enough?  Retailers rely on placing chocolates and magazines near checkouts so you are bored and end up buying a few more things.  When shopping, it is good to shop with a goal in mind OR if browsing, wait overnight before going back to get it.

  • If it is a part of something larger, like a peripheral for a computer, make sure that it is compatible with your other equipment.

  • Read reviews, recommendations and get information.  An educated buyer is the scourge of con-men everywhere!  Know what it is you're buying.  A quick Google search can often yield great information - just remember that the 'net is not peer reviewed so anyone with an opinion can post something.  This is good and bad, make sure you read enough to decide for yourself where the truth is likely to be.

  • Once you have decided that a product type will work for you, it is time to find the best product.  In Australia, we have a body similar to the American FDA called the Therapeutic Goods Administration.  The TGA bans many imports so it is a good thing to communicate by email with a vendor to see if they regularly deliver successfully into wherever you are.  If in doubt, call your Customs service and find out for yourself.

  • Be smart about buying.  The Internet is a huge market place which is the way of the future for all shopping except maybe "need it now" convenience shopping (like running out of milk late in the evening).  You have at the keyboard more tools at your disposal than consumers at any time before this.  Do your research or find someone you trust and be guided by their recommendations with open eyes (no blind following!).

Who or What is Heimdall:

Reproduced here from the Encyclopedia Mythica™ is a summary by Micha F. Lindemans

I chose Heimdall as the identity of this site as it is my desire to see the advice herein protecting all from harm on the net as much as is possible.

The idea of a naming my site after a protector encompasses this desire.

Heimdall © Encyclopedia Mythica (Norse)

Heimdall is the god of light, the son of nine mothers (variously given as the daughters of Geirrendour the Giant or of Aegir). He was born at the end of the world and raised by the force of the earth, seawater and the blood of a boar. Because of his shining, golden teeth he is also called Gullintani ("gold tooth"). His hall is Himinbjorg, The Cliffs of Heaven, and his horse is Gulltop. Heimdall carries the horn Gjallar.

He is the watchman of the gods and guards Bifrost, the only entrance to Asgard, the realm of the gods. It is Heimdall's duty to prevent the giants from forcing their way into Asgard. He requires less sleep than a bird and can see a hundred miles around him, by night as well as by day. His hearing is so accurate that no sound escapes him: he can even hear the grass grow or the wool on a sheep's back. At the final conflict of Ragnarok he will kill his age-old enemy, the evil god Loki, but will die himself from his wounds.

As the god Rig ("ruler"), Heimdall created the three races of mankind: the serfs, the peasants, and the warriors. It is interesting to note why Heimdall fathered them, and not Odin as might be expected. Furthermore, Heimdall is in many attributes identical with Tyr.
